Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes

¡Salud!
Clairy Browne and the Bangin’ Rackettes bring back the sounds of hard hitting Northern Soul, jump blues, doo-wop, ska and gospel straight out of East Harlem via a backyard operation in Melbourne.
This nine piece band fronted by leading lady Clairy Browne and her harmonizing girl group– the Bangin’ Rackettes have come a long way from their debut performance at a juke joint in Melbourne in late 2009. CB/BR have been tearing down the house at venues all over the country, including the Forum Theatre for Melbourne International Arts Festival, touring with the Big Day Out, Golden Plains, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and a national tour with the Cat Empire.

Rounding out this year of firsts, Clairy Browne and the Bangin’ Rackettes launch their debut self-titled EP recorded with award-winning producer Steve Schram. This small collection of songs gives a glimpse into the many sides of this R’n’B big band. From the dark and soulful aggression of “Bats”, to upbeat ska party tune “Don’t Say Don’t” and the shimmery, bittersweet pop song – “Champagne”, this first release shows broad tastes yet an authentic sound.

Drawing influence from Etta James, Tina Turner, The Shirelles and Sister Rosetta Tharpe; Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes set their own scene. Sweaty, gritty dancehall circa 1964, big make-up and even bigger hair, late night dirty dancing, cigarettes hidden in beehives, high gloves and lights down low.

"When Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes appeared, every eye in the room was seduced by that sparkling golden dress and those amazing tasseled gloves. But despite her looks and charm, Browne is one chica I'd hate to be on the wrong side of. A song inspired by Dolly Parton's Jolene brought out Browne's dark side she spat out the words "Back off Stephanie" with such menace the entire room took a step back. But if you're out there Stephanie, put your fears aside, this is one soul show worth seeing."
Inpress Magazine
“Champagne featured bright keys, rounded saxophone beautifully melodious verses and a less polished but more upbeat chorus. Clairy Browne and The Bangin’ Rackettes make music that is purely intoxicating, combining dirty doo-wop with sultry soul, slow hips and unison fingersnapping. “

Saludos, o rei...
